The School
Saint Ronan’s is a co-educational day and boarding school for boys and girls from 3 to 13 years. It was founded in 1883 in Worthing and moved to its present site, Tongswood House, in 1946.
Children, teachers and parents are attracted to the school for its endearing family ethos, its old-fashioned charm as well as its modern outlook. We aim to blend the best of ‘ancient’ and modern.
Saint Ronan’s aims to provide a range of educational opportunities suited to the interests, aptitudes and needs of all the children in its care. We have well-qualified teaching staff who teach in well-resourced departments.
At Saint Ronan’s the happiness and well-being of the children in our care is core. We seek to provide a secure, friendly and nurturing environment. The School is based along the lines of family, not institution, and that pervades everything we do. Each day we sit down together for a ‘family’ meal with wholesome healthy meals, our staff serving the food and keeping an eye on table manners. We want the children to be kind, helpful, gentle and honest. We encourage them to work hard, to listen well and to look after their things and those that belong to others.
We also recognise the importance of achievement. Saint Ronan’s has a fine academic record, particularly for scholarships, and a growing reputation for music, sport, drama and art. The majority of the children move on at 13+, mostly to the Public Schools, and a significant number gain places at Cranbrook School.
We offer advice on the suitability of senior schools, guidance on admissions and exam preparation. We want ‘our’ children to move on from us as self-confident, self-motivated, self-disciplined and self-reliant individuals.
