Music

Music

Music is an important activity in the lives of most boys and girls at Saint Ronan's. Two thirds of the children learn an instrument, while many learn two or three. There are over 165 individual instrumental lessons given each week by a visiting staff of eleven teachers.

There is a 30-member strong orchestra, junior and senior string ensembles, a wind ensemble, brass band, rock groups, a flute ensemble, chamber and chapel choirs and a regular programme of informal concerts that enable every child to perform.

With the completion of the new Music School in 2007, we offer excellent facilities for music-making, with eight teaching and practice rooms and a music technology classroom/percussion/rock studio.

Our aim is to enable every child to experience the highest quality and the widest range of music-making, whether as a performer or listener.

Saint Ronan's Music Scholarship

The Saint Ronan’s Music Scholarship is an award to both recognise musical achievement and to encourage and make a financial contribution towards the continuation of study of a musical instrument beyond Grade 5 (ABRSM or equivalent) whilst at Saint Ronan’s.

Separately, if your child is not already a member of the Saint Ronan's community and is musically talented, he or she may be eligible for a Stanley Harris Award.

We were recently greatly honoured to welcome Hilary Davan Wetton, the world-renowned conductor and teacher, to Saint Ronan’s. Hilary ran a series of Masterclasses with our budding pianists, who greatly enjoyed his enthusiastic and engaging sessions.
