Prospectus - Prep School

Children join the Prep School in Year Three.

Saint Ronan’s has, over the years, always aimed at a high academic standard. There are two main reasons for this: firstly, we feel that it is owed to every child to be given the opportunity to develop their academic potential to the full. Secondly, the increased demands of Public School and Grammar School entry mean that we have to prepare children rigorously for the various entrance examinations, such as Scholarships, Common Entrance and other entry tests (e.g. Cranbrook).

The curriculum is based on an Independent Schools’ Curriculum, which takes the National Curriculum as its starting point but extends it significantly. We regard exams as a yard stick, not as the object of our work.

Academic performance is only one part of school life, however, and children are given the opportunity to participate in a range of sports and extra-curricular activities - as well as being given the opportunity to develop their social skills and confidence within a friendly, supportive environment. Confident pupils, living full lives with plenty of variety and lots to talk about, are more likely to achieve excellent results in exams.
