In our termly Tri-School Debating Tournament young debaters Arthur G and Angus H came a very close second.
We had two teams, Oli P and Isaac B for the A team and Arthur G and Angus H for the B team, debating against Holmewood House and Marlborough House in our termly debating friendly.
Topics ranged from banning sweets, doing away with the monarchy, closing schools as all learning could be done on the internet and forcing people to only have two children. Isaac and Oli worked well together and put forward strong points, as well as questioning their opponents well. But it was Athur and Angus, who had only been debating since September 17, that really impressed with their insistent points of information and fast responses to the opponents’ points. They won a place in the final, where they faced two year 8 scholars from Holmewood House in a tense and closely fought verbal battle we lost by half a point.
It was a great afternoon that was fascinating to listen to. Well done to all debaters for arguing with such strength and style.
